How’s Your Bounce Rate?
A bounce rate is the percentage of visitors who leave your website right away, after seeing only one page.
There will always be some visitors who arrive at your website by mistake; it’s only natural that they don’t stick around. And some visitors might hit your site quickly just to grab a phone number; that’s a good kind of bounce!
But, as a general rule, a really high bounce rate means that visitors are leaving your website instead of engaging with it. They’re not contacting you. You’re not getting their business.
What can you do to reduce your bounce rate?
- Speed things up. If your site is very slow to load, visitors will leave. No one has patience any more to wait on the web. Do you?
- Freshen your design. Studies have shown that visitors make split second decisions about credibility on the web. An out of date, unprofessional design has a negative effect on credibility.
- Examine your message. Take an objective look at your site. Is it easy to use and navigate? Does it clearly state what you do and what problems you solve? Is your contact information super easy to find ?
- Don’t forget mobile. More and more people are looking at your website on their phone. If your site is annoying (or impossible) to use on a phone, you will lose these viewers.
